A THOUGHT to PONDER
An AWS survey shows 73% of employers prioritize hiring AI-skilled talent, but most struggle to find the right people, highlighting the rarity of AI expertise. This gap explains why many aim for AI careers, often linked to higher salaries.
Two key insights stand out.
Employers value not just technical skills like coding but also critical and creative thinking – uniquely human soft skills. (This issue of ACT NOW! includes an HBR article on how to use AI to enhance thinking and problem-solving skills.)
The AI skills gap requires training and education. However, 82% of employers and employees are unsure of the specific skills needed, and 80% are unaware of available training.
Resources like free courses from Amazon, IBM, and LinkedIn exist, but hands-on experience and problem-oriented learning are vital.
Looking forward, daily workplace benefits from AI are expected, but as it's early days, significant preparation and training are essential for maximizing this technology's potential. The future of work's transformation by AI remains to be seen.
